Tom Canfield | September 2025

The story of Tom Canfield began with the Sun at 18 Aquarius, the Moon at 5 Capricorn, and the Ascendant at 18 Virgo. He grew up in Sandy Hook, CT, long before the town became a synonym for death and horror. He went to college at the University of Rhode Island, and it was there he met an Astrologer named Jan Remington (a Gemini), who did his first horoscope. She impressed Tom when she focused on his Mercury-Uranus opposition, and mentioned he had a talent for writing. In 1979, Tom started a formal study of Astrology with a teacher named Geri Gunn, who was a Leo. By the end of the year, he had met Maria Kay Simms and her husband Jim Jossick (both Scorpios), and it was an association that lasted more than 40 years.

Tom was a member of the NCGR chapter of Western Connecticut, and later became a member of the New Hampshire Astrological Association, and then the Seacoast Astrological Association. He later joined the Boston Chapter of the NCGR, and remains in contact through Zoom meetings.  In 1986, Tom went to work for the Samuel Weiser publishing company, and worked for Weisers for 19 years, which he considered to be the best years of his life. When Maria Kay Simms moved Astro Computing Services to New Hampshire, Tom went to work for her and still maintains a connection with the company started by Neil Michelsen.
